Daily Challenge and Streaks in Reverse Song: How They Work

By The Reverse Song Team · October 10, 2026

The daily challenge in Reverse Song is simple: open the app, sing today’s song line, and get a score. Come back tomorrow for a new line, and your streak keeps counting the days you play.

Here is what you need to know in one list:

  1. Everyone gets the same line on the same day. It is picked from the date, so your friends see the one you see.
  2. It changes at local midnight. The new line arrives at midnight in your own time zone.
  3. Scoring on consecutive days builds your streak. Miss a whole day and the streak starts again.
  4. Your best score per song is kept, along with how many attempts you have made and how many songs you have tried.

The rest of this guide covers each point in more detail, plus how to use the daily line as a practice habit.

How the daily line is chosen

The daily line comes from the 24 public-domain song lines in the app, spread across Easy, Medium and Hard. It is picked from the date. That means:

  • There is no draw or random luck per player. If it is Daisy Bell for you today, it is Daisy Bell for your friends today too.
  • There is nothing to coordinate. The choice depends on the date, so nobody needs to send anyone the line.
  • Tomorrow’s line arrives tomorrow. You get today’s, and that is the point.

Because it is the same for everyone, the daily challenge works well as a shared activity. Compare scores in a group chat, or run a week-long league. Our reverse singing party game ideas post has a format for that.

The full song list is on the songs page.

When the line changes

The line changes at local midnight, based on your phone’s date. Two practical effects:

  • Friends in other time zones get the next line at a different moment. Someone a few hours ahead of you will already be on tomorrow’s line while you are still finishing today’s. If you are comparing scores across time zones, agree which day’s line you mean.
  • Late-night players should play before midnight if they want that day’s line. After midnight, the app moves on to the new day’s line.

How streaks work

Your streak counts consecutive days on which you finished at least one scored challenge. The daily line is the easiest way to keep it going, but any song line or free line you get a score on counts. Your streak stays alive until the end of the day after you last played; skip a whole day, and it resets.

A few honest notes:

  • The streak is about coming back. It tracks consecutive days, so the habit matters more than any single result.
  • You can make as many attempts as you like on the day’s line. Your best score on that song is kept.
  • The streak is tied to your local day. Travelling across time zones can shift what counts as “today”, so if you are flying, play when you land rather than relying on the clock you left behind.

Streaks are there to make returning feel rewarding. They are not a test. If you miss a day, the next line is still there tomorrow.

What gets tracked

Reverse Song keeps a small set of stats for you:

StatWhat it means
StreakConsecutive days with at least one scored challenge
Best score per songYour highest score on each song line
AttemptsHow many times you have tried
Songs triedHow many different song lines you have attempted

Best score per song is the most useful one for improvement. Comparing your score on the same line over time is far more meaningful than comparing scores across different lines, because a Hard line like Shenandoah is simply tougher than an Easy one like Jingle Bells. When a daily line comes round that you have played before, you can see whether you have beaten your old best.

Using the daily line as practice

One line a day is a good pace for building the skill. It is short enough to fit into a few spare minutes and regular enough to build up your ear.

A routine that fits into five minutes:

  1. Listen to the reversed line at 0.5x twice. Melody only.
  2. Listen once more for the sounds.
  3. Sing along at 0.75x.
  4. Make two or three scored attempts at full speed.
  5. Note whether you lost points on melody or timing, and pick one thing to fix next time.

If the daily line is a Hard one and you are not ready for it, that is fine. Make your attempt anyway, then spend the rest of your time on an Easy line. Any scored attempt keeps your streak alive. The guide to easy songs to start the reverse challenge has good options.

Sharing your daily result

When you get a score you are proud of, you can share it as a vertical 9:16 video with an animated waveform and your score, or as an audio-only file. “Challenge a friend” sends a reversed clip with a link to the app, which is a neat way to dare someone to beat your score on today’s line.

Recordings stay on your phone unless you share them. See the privacy page for details.

Common questions

Can I play the daily challenge more than once? Yes. Make as many attempts as you like. Your best score on that song is kept.

Can I play other songs on the same day? Yes. The daily line is one option. You can still pick any of the 24 lines or sing a free line of your own.

Why did my streak reset? Most often, a day was missed, or the phone’s date or time zone changed. If you think something went wrong, the support page is the place to ask.

Does the daily line repeat? With 24 lines in the pool, you will see songs come round again. That is useful: it gives you a chance to beat your previous best.

New to the whole thing? Start with how it works, then how to sing a song backwards.
